September 2009

- Bristol Speed Championship 2009 winner! First season back in sprinting and Rob takes the Bristol Speed Championship. Rob last won the championship back in 2005 driving his old Elise. This season has seen Rob back an Elise but this time with a bit less power and to say he has been successful would be a slight understatement. Rob won 4 events out right and broke 3 class records in the process. - Wiscombe Hill Climb weekend sees Rob take two 4th places. The Saturday was a tricky day with the rain making already slippery track even worse. Rob only started to get to grips with the conditions during the timed runs. He was holding onto third in class but dropped to forth on the last run. Hugh Trotman, again in Robs old Elise, proved that experience was the skill needed for the day and set a staggering 46.99 in the slippery conditions. With Jonathan Wright in his very quick Golf Mk1 in second place. Sunday saw the sun come out at last and the competition hotting up with Hugh, Jonathan and Rob heading up the class. After practice 2/100th's of a second separated Jonathan and Rob. First timed runs and everybody ups their game with Jonathan taking the lead, Hugh in second and Rob dropping to 3rd, however less than 1/2 a second covers the three drivers. The final run Hugh pulls out all the stops and sets his fastest ever time on the hill. He takes the lead out of our 3-way battle with Jonathan second and Rob third. The three cars are separated by less than 3/10ths of a second. Rob beat his own personal best time by over 1/2 a second doing the hill in 46.45second. The win is taken by a very quick Escort that hadn't really featured in the results all day but somehow improved by over 1.5seconds on the last run to take the class win. Wiscombe never fails to produce great racing and this weekend was no exception.
